Still fighting
Desmond Tutu is showing no signs of slowing down as he turns 77, and is still an advocate for justice.

  • Johannesburg - Former ANC chief whip Tony Yengeni was arrested in Goodwood on Monday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Senior Superintendent Siphiwo Hewena said Yengeni was arrested around 09:00 along Giel Basson drive after his vehicle swerved and landed on an island.

Patrolling police noticed the incident and stopped to investigate when they smelled alcohol on his breath.

When asked whether he had been drinking, Yengeni said he had not and that he had taken flu medication.

Police were not convinced. Yengeni was then arrested and taken for blood tests.

He was detained at the Goodwood police station for about four hours after being granted R500 bail.

He was due to appear in court on March 19 on drunk driving charges.

Yengeni is still out on parole for a fraud conviction. One of his parole conditions is that he abstains from using alcohol.
