'Hoax e-mail' man arrested
30/11/2007 14:01 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Muziwendoda Kunene, the man caught up in the "hoax e-mail" saga has been arrested for attempted murder, 702 radio reported on Friday.
Kunene was arrested on Thursday morning.
Kunene's wife Belinda told the broadcaster she feared for her husband's safety.
She said arresting officers did not present a warrant of arrest and were armed with assault weapons.
"It's believed that the attempted murder charge was laid by Kunene's son," 702 reported.
Police Captain Dennis Adriao confirmed that a man had been arrested for attempted murder.
His name would not released as he had not appeared in court yet, Adriao said.
Kunene's arrest comes only a few weeks after he claimed that senior members of the African National Congress (ANC) were plotting to assassinate him.
The ruling party dismissed the claims and a few hours later Kunene was shot in the hand in Pretoria.
Kunene stands accused under the Intelligence Services Oversight Act of withholding information from the Inspector General of Intelligence, by failing or refusing to provide a response to questions put to him.
The saga involves fake emails between ANC leaders, discrediting ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma.
The e-mails allegedly implicated senior ANC members in a conspiracy against ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma and ANC secretary general Kgalema Motlanthe.
