Johannesburg - A 19-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested on Saturday for armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, police said on Monday.

"The man was arrested on Saturday with the help of the community on the corner of Klein and Caroline streets in Hillbrow," Captain Bheki Mavundla said.

The man, together with an unknown number of accomplices, allegedly robbed a beauty salon earlier.

The fire arm that had been in the man's possession would be taken to the police laboratories for ballistic tests, Mavundla said.

The man is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, police said.
