Johannesburg - The body of a 13-year-old boy was found floating in the surf at Macassar Beach on the False Bay Coast, the National Sea Rescue Institute said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the boy from Khayelitsha, was found by a young girl on Monday afternoon.
The young girl alerted adults on the beach who then removed the youth from the sea and called the emergency services.
"All efforts to resuscitate him were exhausted and the child was declared dead on the scene, Lambinon said.
He appealed to parents to arrange responsible adult supervision for their children when they went swimming in inland or coastal waters or in swimming pools.
"We are also strongly encouraging bathers to go to beaches where and when lifeguards are on duty and swim in the demarcated safe swimming zones mapped out by lifeguards using red and yellow flags," he said.
