  • Polokwane - Security officials blew open the window of an unattended vehicle at the ANC's Polokwane conference on Tuesday morning, a police spokesperson said.

Superintendent Ronel Otto said after the blast, which was heard across the conference venue, that the vehicle had been parked at Gate One of the University of Limpopo for a long time and they had not been able to trace the owner.

"Sniffer dogs reacted so to gain access to the vehicle we had to use explosives to blow open the window," said Otto.

Nothing suspicious was found inside the vehicle and the owner was traced through personal items inside the car.

People who heard the blast initially thought it may have been a shooting during the long awaited vote for the party's top-six candidates.

"It was just a precaution said," Otto said.
