Johannesburg - A motorist died after crashing his car into a minibus taxi and splitting it in half on Saturday, Tshwane metro police said.

Spokesperson Louise Brits said the accident happened on the Ben Schoeman Highway.

"The driver of the VW Golf was travelling on the Ben Schoeman South when he made a U-turn into the oncoming traffic lane, he hit the minibus taxi splitting the car in half," she said.

Two people from the minibus taxi sustained minor injuries.
