Johannesburg - Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on Wednesday, for the alleged rape and murder of a four-year-old Limpopo girl, police said.

"The girl was raped and strangled at Maedane Village on Monday evening...the suspect broke into the little girls house and tried to rape her (the girl's) mother, but she (the mother) managed to flee with her baby boy, and left her daughter behind," said Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba.

"The man then raped the child and later strangled her."

The man would appear in the local Magistrates Court soon.
