Johannesburg - Questions surround the hijacking of a woman, who claimed hijackers stuffed the man she was travelling with into the boot of the car, police told News24 on Thursday.
Lulama Mgijima, 32, sustained multiple injuries when she jumped out of a moving red Toyota in Randburg north of Johannesburg late on Tuesday evening.
Earlier reports stating the two were married were false, police spokesperson Superintendant Eugene Opperman said.
"She doesn't want to elaborate to us why she was in the vehicle with him," said Opperman. "He allegedly just offered her a lift."
The woman, who was being treated at Helen Joseph Memorial hospital, could only say the man called himself Prince and was of Nigerian origin.
Police were still searching for the missing man on Thursday.
Hijacking
The two were hijacked by two men, one armed, in Randburg. The man was locked in the boot, according to Mgijima, while the hijackers sped off with her in the car.
"She was then allegedly sexually molested and she decided that she was going to jump out of the car," said Opperman, who said the car was moving very fast at the time.
Nearby police officers spotted Mgijima lying on the corner of Judges and Republic road near Cresta, in a serious condition.
According to ER24 paramedics she had multiple injuries to her face, upper and lower body.
She only told police two hours later that there was a man in the boot of the hijacked car.
Police said the lack of information made the case very difficult.
"We don't have a description of him, we don't have a registration number, we have absolutely zero," said Opperman. "It makes our work extremely difficult."
He said Mgijima would be called in from time to time for further interviewing.
Police were investigating a case of kidnapping and hijacking.
