Two Dbn petrol stations robbed
04/01/2008 11:05  - (SA)

  • Filling station 'robber' nabbed
  • Cash heist at service station
  • Thieves hit 5 petrol stations
  • Durban - Staff and customers of two separate Engen service stations in Durban were robbed at gunpoint within the space of an hour on Thursday night - and police are busy investigating whether the two crimes are linked.

Police arrested two men at one of the crime scenes, and are now investigating whether the robbers were part of a syndicate targeting service stations in and around Durban.

Inspector Michael Read said the first incident took place at 20:55 at an Engen service station in Stanger Street.

"Three men, one armed, entered the premises, held up staff and customers and took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot," said Read.

The second incident took place an hour later at an Engen service station on Old Dutch Road, barely five kilometres away.

"Four men, one armed, entered the premises and held the staff and customers at gunpoint. They took an undisclosed amount of money," said Read.

Policemen patrolling the area managed to apprehend two robbers.

"They were arrested and police are now attempting to ascertain whether they were linked to the first incident and also whether they are linked to any other service station robberies," said Read.

The two men are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday.
