  • Johannesburg - A police dog named Wolf helped to catch two burglars in Etwatwa on the North Rand, Johannesburg police said on Friday.

Superintendent Eugene Opperman said Wolf and his handler, inspector Nataniel Malaza - from the North-East Rand SAPS dog unit - were sent to investigate a burglary in progress at a spaza shop.

On arrival, Wolf "told" Malaza that there were goings-on inside the shop.

Malaza stepped into the shop and identified himself.

Opperman said: "Wolf followed suit with a couple of barks and growls of an authoritative nature."

Two wide-eyed burglars then emerged from hiding and surrendered to Malaza.

The two men - in their twenties - are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate's Court soon, said Opperman.
