Dark week ahead for Durban
11/01/2008 07:28 - (SA)
Durban - Load shedding will resume in Durban as from Monday due to the re-opening of businesses and the end of the holiday season, eThekwini Municipality said on Thursday.
"The eThekwini municipality would like to warn its residents about power cuts starting next week, in particular on Monday," the city said in a statement.
eThekwini Municipality said increased electricity demand had been brought on by the end of the holiday season and the re-opening of businesses.
"This has put increased pressure on the entire electricity system," it said.
Due to routine maintenance at Koeberg power station, which was expected to last until late April, more power cuts would take place, eThekwini municipality said.
"A lot more maintenance on power stations is expected to take place during the summer months when the country's electricity demand is relatively low."
