Johannesburg - An 85-year-old Joubertina farmer was attacked and robbed by three men at his home after he returned from church, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Spokesperson Priscilla Naidu said Towen Ferreira from Whitehouse farm returned from church on Sunday and was accosted by three men.
"They covered his head with a towel and led him inside the house. They demanded money from him and he gave them R250 from his wallet."
"When they demanded more money he wrote out two cheques for R1 000. The robbers also stole four firearms," she said.
According to the police the man was then forced into his bakkie by the robbers.
"The driver of the bakkie lost control and drove into a wall on the R62. They then fled the scene.
"Later three men were taken in for questioning and no firearms were recovered," said Naidu.
Police were investigating a case of armed robbery.
