UK clarifies SA fingerprint rule
15/01/2008 14:01 - (SA)
Johannesburg - South Africans who want to visit the United Kingdom do not have to be fingerprinted to enter the country, the British High Commission said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Russ Dixon said there had been a number of misleading reports in the media that all South Africans wishing to enter the United Kingdom now need to be fingerprinted.
"This is incorrect, " he said.
"This requirement applies only to those South Africans who are applying for visas such as students, working holidaymakers, those that are settling in the UK and those who require work permits," he said
According to the Commission, the majority of South Africans who visit the UK do so as tourists.
"They do not require a visa and therefore do not need to be fingerprinted," said Dixon.
