Pikoli: Govt gave 2 submissions
18/01/2008 16:29 - (SA)
Cape Town - The Ginwala Commission of Inquiry into suspended National Director of Public Prosecutions, Vusi Pikoli, has received two more submissions from government.
"(A) submission was received on Wednesday night, and a copy was delivered to advocate Pikoli's attorneys yesterday; a further submission was delivered... last night (Thursday), and a copy of this submission will also be sent to advocate Pikoli's attorneys today," the commission said in a statement.
It expected to receive confirmation later on Friday from government on whether any further submissions would be made before January 25.
This is the date of a new deadline imposed by commission head Frene Ginwala earlier this week, after the government failed to meet the original January 15 deadline.
President Thabo Mbeki suspended Pikoli on September 24 last year, and four days later, appointed Ginwala - the former Speaker of the National Assembly - to head an inquiry.
Its terms of reference cover two broad areas: Pikoli's fitness to hold office, and the breakdown of the working relationship between him and Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Brigitte Mabandla.
The commission will sit in Pretoria.
