Johannesburg - A seven-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday in Msukeni dam near Mount Ayliff, Eastern Cape police said.

Spokesperson inspector Mungisi Matidane said four boys were trying to cross the dam at 13:00 on Tuesday when Zuko Ngqoko drowned.

His body was recovered and sent to a pathologist for post-mortem examination.

An inquest docket had been opened with the Mount Ayliff police, Matidane said.
