23/01/2008 11:05 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The North East Rand police dog unit recovered a Volvo cargo truck, minutes after it was hijacked in Alberton, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
Police were on patrol at about 23:40 on Tuesday when a look-out call for the truck was given to all police units in the area.
"They spotted the truck shortly afterwards - it was parked in Zonkizizwe. On checking the cargo, they found that a batch of fridges was still in the trailers," said police spokesperson superintendent Eugene Opperman.
Opperman said the value of the cargo came to about five million rand.
No one was found in the truck and police were continuing their investigations, Opperman said.
