Durban - Two Fidelity guards were held up at a Durban service station on Monday and robbed of a cash box containing a large sum of money, police said.
Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the incident took place at 08:00 at a Sasol service station on Old Main Road in Isipingo, south of Durban.
"Four armed men - three carrying 9mm pistols and one carrying a rifle - arrived in an Opel Corsa," he said.
Thereafter, two Fidelity guards entered the premises to collect cash.
The robbers confronted the guards as they opened the safe, and took one cash box before firing several shots, said Mngomezulu.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics had gone to the scene but no injuries were reported.
