Mabandla mum on submission
28/01/2008 15:56 - (SA)
Cape Town - Justice Minister Brigitte Mabandla on Monday declined to be drawn into newspaper reports claiming she wants suspended National Prosecution Authority head Vusi Pikoli permanently removed from his post.
"We made our submission to the Ginwala Commission of Inquiry, not to the media," Mabandla's spokesperson Zolile Nqayi said.
On Monday the Star reported that, in her submission to the Ginwala Commission, Mabandla had listed 11 reasons why she thinks Pikoli should be ousted.
Nqayi declined to comment, saying the justice ministry's submission to the commission was confidential.
In September last year, President Thabo Mbeki suspended Pikoli, citing an irretrievable breakdown in the relationship between Pikoli and Mabandla.
Mbeki then appointed Ginwala to lead the enquiry on whether Pikoli was fit to hold office.
Pikoli had come under fire from certain quarters within the ANC on his decision to pursue criminal investigations against National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi.
