Flowers for murdered principal
06/02/2008 12:25 - (SA)
Pretoria - Flowers in memory of slain nursery school principal Rinda Abraham were laid outside the Pretoria District Court where her three alleged killers briefly appeared on Wednesday.
A few hundred people held a silent protest outside court in memory of Abraham, who was shot and killed in her Waterkloof Ridge home in January.
Inside court the case of her three alleged murderers was postponed to February 12 for further investigation.
The three accused - Dinis Gentil Nhone, 36, Christovao Fresco Ndima, 19 and a third man who claimed to be under age - are charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They were not asked to plead.
Abraham's son Reggie said outside court that he hoped the murder had struck a cord with the country's leaders.
"All this support is awesome. She would have really appreciated this," Reggie said referring to the protest.
The laying of flowers and the silent protest was organised by civil rights initiative AfriForum.
"We want to show the families of victims of crime that they are not just statistics," chief executive of AfriForum Kallie Kriel said.
