Johannesburg - Two police officers were wounded on Wednesday during a shoot-out with a suspected criminal in Everton in Vaal Rand, police said.
Captain Johannes Motsiri said the officers were following up information which led them to the 23-year-old in Everton.
"He was suspected to be among a group of men who have been harassing and robbing Somalis in the area.
"They've allegedly been taking their money, cellphones and other stuff in their shops."
Motsiri said the suspect was shot in the face and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition under heavy police guard.
His gun was recovered.
"The two officers were also taken to hospital - both sustained gunshot wounds to the leg."
