  • SA troops to stay in Burundi
  • SA peacekeepers OK after attack
  • Soldiers killed in car crash
  • Pretoria - Twelve South African soldiers were injured in Burundi when their military vehicle overturned, the SA National Defence Force said on Thursday.

Three who were seriously injured were scheduled to be evacuated to South Africa later in the day, Brigadier General Kwena Mangope said in a statement.

The remaining soldiers were treated for minor injuries in Bujumbura, Burundi's capital, where the accident happened on Wednesday .

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident, and Mangope said a Board of Enquiry would be convened to investigate the incident.

South African soldiers are deployed in Burundi under an African Union to assist with the peace process in that country.
