Students protest in Pretoria
22/02/2008 14:25 - (SA)
Pretoria - Hundreds of protesting university students marched to the Department of Education in Pretoria on Friday.
The students - who were singing and holding placards - were expected to hand over a memorandum of grievances to the department.
This related to fee increments and academic exclusion.
Some of the students who attended the march - organised by the SA Union of Students - were from various universities around the country, including the University of Limpopo and the University of the Witwatersrand.
University of Limpopo student Mapule Letsoalo said that she was protesting for free education.
The union represents most Student Representative Councils of universities in the country.
Metro police and the SAPS maintained a heavy presence.
