Zuma 'lobbies' Mauritius PM
24/02/2008 14:16 - (SA)
Johannesburg - ANC president Jacob Zuma asked Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam to tell his attorney-general, Rama Valayden, to stop ignoring his lawyer, Mike Hulley, the City Press reported online on Saturday.
According to the newspaper there was a meeting between the two last week, and some of the discussions were about Valayden's "cold attitude" to Hulley .
The meeting apparently took place just before Zuma filed his 12-page affidavit in the Supreme Court of Mauritius.
However, Hulley is said to have denied that there was a meeting - "Neither Mr Zuma nor myself nor "anyone representing him met the prime minister with a view to 'discussing the litigation'."
Hulley said he did not meet Ramgoolam but that even if Zuma had, the case was not discussed, City Press reported.
Zuma has filed an affidavit in the supreme court in a bid to stop Mauritius from granting South African authorities valuable evidence that could be used against him in his impending fraud, corruption and money-laundering case.
