Middelburg - Metro police officials are alleged to have invaded a family's home, beaten their son and domestic worker and shot their dog.

After shooting the family's dog through it's flank and shoulder, an official apparently said to the woman in English: "I wonder who's next?"

Four counts of assault, crimen injuria and trespassing have been filed against the official concerned by the Botha family of Middelburg.

Police spokesperson Lize Coetzee confirmed that the official, who was not being named for legal reasons, had filed charges against Peet Botha, 54, of reckless and negligent driving, drunken driving, resisting arrest, bribery, corruption and obstructing the ends of justice.

Botha said he had been pulled off the road by a traffic cop while talking on his cellphone, just after 18:00.

He told Botha to accompany him to the police station because he apparently reeked of alcohol.

Botha said: "I said, OK I would go along, but I just wanted to leave my car at home. My house was just a few blocks away."

Botha said the official followed him to his home. Shortly afterwards, he put his siren on.

More metro police vehicles arrived and allegedly tried to push Botha off the road.

Botha alleged that shortly afterwards he was badly assaulted.

One official grabbed him by the ankles and threw him on to the grass.

Another official kicked him behind the head and in the chest and beat him, he said.

Wife thumped with elbow

His son, Chris, 14, and their domestic worker, Linah Skhosana, 54, were both beaten in the face.

When Botha's wife, Trudie, 41, asked the official what they were doing, one of them thumped her in the chest with his elbow and told her: "Fuck off, white bitch, fuck off."

The official then shot the dog through its flank and shoulder.

Botha was released on R500 bail.

Steve Tshwete municipality manager Willie Fouché said he knew of the incident.

"I know the official fired one shot which hit the dog. The case is pending and justice will take its course."
