UFS cancels all classes
27/02/2008 15:10 - (SA)
Bloemfontein - The University of the Free State (UFS) cancelled all classes on Wednesday afternoon after a protest march by hundreds of staff and students against a racial video made last year by white students.
UFS spokesperson Anton Fisher said all student classes were suspended after the protest march.
"It's to calm the situation on campus."
In the video black staff members were given food to eat which was urinated on.
Students and workers union Nehawu handed over memorandums to the UFS management against the making of the video.
Four students who had been identified in the video could face serious action.
Two of them, who are still studying, face possible expulsion.
Fisher said UFS lawyers met during the afternoon with State prosecutors to formulate charges against the students involved.
