Cape Town - Two German tourists have drowned near Gordon's Bay, the NSRI has reported.
At about 16:20 on Saturday afternoon, the NSRI Gordon's Bay, metro ambulance and rescue services, metro Red Cross AMS helicopter, SA police services, Netcare 911 ambulance services, Cape Town Fire and rescue services and the Vodacom Netcare 911 Surf Rescue helicopter responded to reports of a drowning in progress.
The man and a woman, both in their late 20's, were apparently part of a group of Germans planning to attend a wedding on Sunday.
They went swimming at a beach adjacent to the Cool Bay camping sites and were apparently swept out to sea by rip currents.
Lifeguards rushed in to save them and despite extensive efforts by paramedics, both were declared dead on the scene.
The tourists were from Potsdam, Germany.
The German Consulate, police and Department of Foreign Affairs were assisting with next of kin notification.
