Johannesburg - A man was slightly hurt after a truck driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two pillars of the Shalimar Ridge shopping mall in Heidelberg on Monday, Gauteng police said.

Captain Thivhula Tvhilate said a part of the bridge held up by the pillars collapsed. The falling rubble injured a man's leg.

A parked vehicle was also damaged in the crash, Tvhilate said.

The truck driver tried to run away, but was apprehended by residents who handed him over to authorities.
