White River - A driver's licence was issued to a woman who had been hiding in the toilets at the testing site for 20 minutes instead of taking the practical driving test.
She and an examiner at the testing site at Mbombela municipality in White River, were both arrested on Monday.
According to police, the examiner pretended to take the woman for a 20-minute test drive while she was hiding in the toilet.
Members of the police's commercial crimes unit were at the testing grounds, however, after they had received complaints about previous irregularities at the grounds.
According to Captain Leonard Hlathi of the unit against organised crime in Mpumalanga, the police had been watching the vehicle the woman was supposed to have used. The vehicle didn't move at all in the time the woman supposedly had been taking her test.
Shortly after she was issued with a driver's licence, the woman was arrested. She gave police the registration number of another vehicle in which she claimed to have done the test.
Hlathi said: "We established that the vehicle in which she claimed to have been tested, was 300km from White River in Siyabuswa at that time."
Both the woman and the examiner have appeared in court.
