Johannesburg - An unarmed guard watched helplessly as eight armed robbers bombed an ATM in a shop in Atteridgeville on Wednesday morning, said Pretoria police.
Constable Patricia Simelani said the gang warned the guard not to make a noise when they broke into the BPT Supermarket in Pomolong Section at 02:30.
"The suspects were armed and he was not. They bombed the ATM which is also located inside the supermarket but could not open the money boxes," said Simelani.
They fled empty-handed. The guard then called the police.
Simelani said no-one had been arrested. A case of malicious damage to property was being investigated.
