Johannesburg - A 16-year-old Mozambican girl was arrested after a foetus wrapped in a plastic bag was found in a field in Witbank, Mpumalanga police said on Friday.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the foetus was discovered by a resident while going to work on Thursday morning.

"Residents called the police after they suspected it could have been dumped by the girl after she could not answer on the whereabouts of her baby."

Khoabane said the child was certified dead at the scene and the mother was arrested and charged for concealment of birth.
