Bloemfontein - A young mother from Pretoria literally saw red and her skin burnt like hot coals when she was attacked with pepper spray by a woman in a case of road rage.
Barbara Möller, 29, said the hell she endured from the pepper spray was over, but she was still hot under the collar about what had happened to her.
Her husband, Gerhard, was also angry.
He said that if he could find out who the woman was who had sprayed Barbara with pepper spray at a Bloemfontein robot, he definitely would lay a charge of assault with the police.
Barbara, who works as a rep in the pharmaceutical industry, said she had been on her way home on Thursday after being in Bloemfontein for two days for her work.
She had been on her way out of the city heading towards the N1 when a young woman forced her to pull over in Nelson Mandela Drive and attacked her with pepper spray.
Cut in front and braked
Barbara said: "I was driving in the right-hand lane and probably was going too slowly for her liking. She charged at me.
"When she shot past me on the left we were both waving our arms at each other. Then she cut in in front of me and braked.
"I had to brake sharply so as not to hit her.
"Finally, she forced me to stop in the dangerous, right-hand lane."
"She got out of her car and I wound down my window.
"She said something which I didn't hear and then she sprayed me.
"Luckily, it wasn't directly in my eyes. I turned away.
"She sprayed my cheek, ears, hair, neck, hands - the whole car.
"It wasn't one or two sprays. She really sprayed. Then she was gone.
"I had difficulty breathing and, unfortunately, I couldn't get her registration number.
"It was a luxury car and she was well dressed. She was my age or maybe younger."
Couldn't pick up kids
Barbara said that the rest of her drive and her arrival at home were hell.
"My skin burned the whole way - for four hours.
"When I got home, I couldn't pick up my small children immediately.
"Then I made the mistake of taking a shower. That made things worse."
She said she was more than just upset about the attack.
"I'm rattled and angry.
"I drive in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Gauteng daily where there are often road-rage episodes and crime at traffic lights.
"In Bloemfontein, I am always more at ease at traffic lights.
"I'm astounded that it happened in Bloemfontein and that it was a woman."
Her husband said he was disappointed and shocked at what had happened to his wife.
