Malelane - A man was wounded and arrested by police while trying to escape after allegedly murdering his seven-month-old son, said Mpumalanga police on Wednesday.
According to Captain Leonard Hlathi, Dennis Nkambule argued with the mother of his baby in a tavern in Schoemansdal on Sunday and stabbed her once in the head.
"He left her bleeding on the floor and rushed home where he took their baby and stabbed him six times before leaving his body near the gate and fleeing."
He was traced and found, but resisted arrest, threatening police with a knife.
Hlathi said Nkambule was shot in both legs by police and arrested.
"He was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged on Monday. He appeared on murder and attempted murder charges at Boschfontein Periodical Court on Tuesday."
His 21-year-old girlfriend is recovering at home after being treated for her wound, said Hlathi.
Nkambule is due back in court on April 29.
