Cape Town - Two Khayelitsha men have been found guilty of the rape and murder of a Treatment Action Campaign member, the TAC said on Wednesday.
Nandipha Makeke, 18, was raped and then shot in the head in December 2005.
"TAC welcomes the ruling," said the organisation's Khayelitsha co-ordinator, Mandla Majola.
"We are relieved that it's going to be over. It's been dragging for too long."
TAC said in a statement that a Khayelitsha regional magistrate ruled on Wednesday that Thembinkosi Ntukani was guilty of the murder and of being an accomplice to rape, while Bonga Sibhozo was guilty of murder and rape.
Both men were also convicted on charges related to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, the TAC said.
The convictions were confirmed to Sapa by a court official.
Two other men were earlier found not guilty and discharged.
Ntukani initially made a confession which he later attempted to withdraw.
Sibhozo's semen was found on Makeke's body.
Scores of TAC members have protested outside the court during the more than 20 appearances in the case.
Sentence is expected on April 7.
In 2006 the Cape High Court sentenced two men for the murder of Khayelitsha TAC member Lorna Mlofana.
They raped her, then killed her when she disclosed that she was HIV positive.
