Plane probe to take months
03/04/2008 21:04 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says it will take months to complete its investigation into the cause of the plane crash in which a pilot died at Krugersdorp Game Reserve on Tuesday.
CAA spokesperson Moses Seate said on Thursday the investigation was complex and needed the input of many stakeholders.
"We need to liaise with police on their investigations as well as get post-mortem reports from doctors, Lanseria workers and any possible witnesses," he said.
The police and airport authorities have conflicting reports about what happened.
Authorities at Lanseria airport said on Wednesday that their air traffic control room was not aware of an emergency that led to the death of pilot Trevor Emmanuel.
Police reports however indicated the pilot had asked to make an emergency landing at the airport, but this was rejected.
