Johannesburg - The body of a five-year-old girl was discovered on Monday in a shallow grave at Phagamang township near Modimolle, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.
"This is the 8th child to be found dead in the area since 2004, and four others are still missing. Our suspicion is that a serial killer might be loose," said police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo.
(The) girl went missing on Saturday when she was playing with her friends in the township, outside Modimolle - the former Nylstroom. The matter was reported in the evening when she failed to reach home."
A police ground team searched for the girl on Saturday and Sunday.
A helicopter joined the search on Monday.
The child was found at about 10:00, "half-naked in a shallow grave. We suspect that she might have been raped before she was killed."
