Pretoria - Police are investigating a charge of attempted murder after a man let rip with a pepper-spray pistol on a couple in a car during a road-rage attack.
The attack was at the intersection of Lynnwood Road and Hans Strijdom Avenue in the east of Pretoria.
Captain Colette Weilbach said the attack took place last Friday morning at 07:00, but that a charge was laid only on Monday night.
She said Comfort and Zanele Mkhonto were driving down Hans Strijdom Avenue when a man in a white Nissan Navara drove slowly in front of him.
"The man (Comfort) flashed his lights at the driver in front of him so that he could pass, but the man gave him the finger and called him a kaffir."
"The person then fired several shots at them with a pepper-spray pistol."
Zanele was being treated in the intensive-care unit of Faerie Glen Hospital after she developed serious breathing problems when she was shot with the pepper spray.
The Mkhontos let Beeld know via a hospital spokesperson that they did not wish to speak to the newspaper.
