Johannesburg - Three people drowned on a whale-watching expedition in the Western Cape after their boat capsized in waters also famous for sharks, the SABC reports.
A spokesperson for the National Sea Rescue Institute said the boat flipped after being hit by a big wave at Kleinbaai near Gansbaai in the Overberg, flinging tourists and crew overboard.
Some passengers had been rescued, the spokesperson said without giving numbers, but a search was still under way for the rest.
Seven people had received medical treatment, he said.
