Cape Town - Taliep Petersen's only son, Ashur, 15, is having the hardest time coping with the death of his father.
The night before Taliep's gruesome murder in December 2006, Ashur performed with his father for the first time at the Luxurama Theatre in Wynberg. Taliep had waited a long time for that moment.
Igsaan, Taliep's younger brother, told Die Burger in an interview on Thursday that Ashur "still was having the hardest time out of everyone".
But, for the rest of the family, it varied from day to day.
An extremely safety-conscious Taliep was shot dead by attackers shortly after 23:00 on December 16 2006 in his house in Athlone.
Taliep's family as well as that of his widow Najwa Petersen (who is on trial for his murder along with her co-accused, Abdoer Emjedi, Waheed Hassen and Jefferson Snyders) have attended the hearing every day.
Igsaan said on Thursday that the family had accepted a long time ago that "nothing on earth" would bring Taliep back.
"We accepted his death a long time ago. The way I knew my brother, he would've wanted us to get on with our lives. Sometimes it's easy, other times it's difficult.
Want to know who killed Taliep
"We find comfort in the Almighty because if it weren't for him we wouldn't be able to get through this," said Igsaan.
He said the family still listened to Taliep's music and still saw his face on television.
"We know there will be more programmes about him."
He said that the family attended the hearing daily because they had a lot of interest in it.
"We just want to know why my brother was killed, that's all."
Taliep was survived by four children, Jawahier, 22, Aeysha, 19, Ashur and Fatima, 14 from his first marriage to Megheeda Anders.
Taliep and Najwa had one child, Zaynab, nine.
The hearing was postponed until Friday.
