Middelburg - Mpumalanga police are offering a R10 000 reward to anyone who can help put a murderous gang behind bars.
The gang robbed two mines and a power station in the space of two months last year. They killed a guard in the process, but have never been caught.
"We are asking the community to assist us with information that can lead to the arrest of this gang," said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Leonard Hlathi.
The security guard, West Makhubela, was killed while on duty at Arnot mine near Middelburg on July 7 last year. The suspects had cut a hole in the fence near the mine office.
"He was shot dead on the scene and the suspects fled empty-handed," he said.
The next day, the gang returned and dug a hole under the fence. They broke into the mine office and stole computers worth R15 000.
On the third day, they robbed the Kendal Power Station in Ogies of nine computers worth R50 000 and fled.
The following month, the suspects hit the Goedehoop mine in Blinkpan and also stole a computer and computer monitors worth R8 000 and fled.
Police are asking Solomon Respect Nyathi, 38, or anyone who knows him to call them in connection with the case.
The public is advised not to contact Nyathi directly, but to call Superintendent Mokonyama on 082 565 7099.
