Cape Town - The trial of Najwa Petersen and the three men she allegedly hired to kill her husband Taliep has been postponed for just over a week, to May 5.

The postponement came after the State applied on Friday to lead hearsay evidence on conversations Taliep had with his sister Tagmieda.

Advocate Klaus von Lieres, appearing for Najwa, objected, and Cape High Court judge Siraj Desai said he needed time to weigh up what would be a very important decision.

He said the postponement would also give the state a chance to consolidate its case following this week's surprise turnaround by Waheed Hassen, who declared he wanted to plead guilty.
