Guards held for armed robbery

Johannesburg - Three security guards have been arrested following an armed robbery at the University of Johannesburg in Doornfontein, police said on Friday.
Police spokesperson Richard Munyai said a security supervisor allegedly arranged for one of the guards to let four men into a university building on Wednesday night so they could steal money from an automated teller machine.
CCTV cameras showed the guard opening up for the men and leaving them in the room containing the ATM.
The guard then went on patrol.
However, it was believed that the men failed to get money from the ATM.
Instead, Munyai said, the men stayed in the office until Thursday morning when they attacked university staff arriving for duty.
Eight staffers were robbed before the men fled in a waiting car.
The guard who let them in was arrested when police checked the cameras.
He implicated his supervisor who was also arrested.
The police also arrested a security guard working for another company in connection with the robbery.
The three were in custody and were expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
