Six injured in taxi shooting

Durban - Six people were seriously injured at a northern KwaZulu-Natal service station when local taxi operators allegedly opened fire on rival Gauteng operators, police said on Tuesday.
Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the incident took place at the Hluhluwe Engen service station on Monday afternoon.
He said Hluhluwe taxi operators claimed that Gauteng taxis were stealing their passengers.
It was alleged that one Gauteng taxi was stopped along the N2 freeway travelling towards Mkhuze by operators from the Hluhluwe Association on Monday.
The driver was assaulted.
"He then alerted the other Gauteng operators about the incident," said Mdletshe.
At least ten other Gauteng taxis converged on the Hluhluwe Engen Garage in an apparent attempt to talk to the rival group when shots were fired at them.
"Three passengers, one driver and one bystander were wounded while another driver was assaulted with sticks," said Mdletshe.
One man is reportedly in a critical condition in hospital.
Police said there were no fatalities.
Mdletshe said eight taxis were damaged.
"No arrests have been made yet but police are investigating five attempted murders, eight cases of malicious damage to property and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm," he said.
