Durban - A man was arrested on Tuesday for indecently assaulting a two-year-old baby girl, police said.
Captain Thembeka Luthuli said the man was arrested at his flat in the Point area.
The child went missing on Sunday while her mother was at a block of flats on Point Road.
"Residents helped her search and the baby was found with a man. This suspect is known in the community as someone who can't be trusted with children," she said.
During the police investigation, it was established that the man had allegedly inserted a finger into the baby and had allegedly forced her to play with his private parts.
She urged parents to watch children all the time and not let them out of their sight.
"We also urge people not to leave their children with strangers," she said.
In this case, it was unclear how the man had taken the child.
Luthuli added that under the new legislation, the man would now be charged with rape.
