Polokwane - Two gunmen are still at large after shooting a man in the head when he refused to raise his hands while being robbed.

The man and two friends were attacked in Makotse village near Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane at about midnight on Friday, said Lebowakgomo police spokesperson Inspector Manong Tshehla on Tuesday.

He said the friends had just left a tavern and were walking and chatting when two gunmen held them up.

"The suspects ordered them to raise their hands in the air, but the deceased refused to do so," said Tshehla.

The gunmen got angry and one of them shot him in the head. He died instantly.

The two gunmen then ran away empty-handed.

The survivors rushed to the police station to report the incident and police immediately sent out a search team, but the gunmen were not found.

The dead man's identity is being withheld until his family has been informed of the incident. He is believed to come from Mozambique.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Lebowakgomo police on (015) 633 1221/3/6.
