Johannesburg - A 25-year-old Johannesburg metro police officer was murdered in her house in Crosby, west of Johannesburg, metro spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said on Thursday.

Minnaar said Petunia Malika died of a gunshot wound while off duty late Wednesday night.

"Neighbours said they heard her having an argument with her boyfriend prior to when the gunshot went off."

Minnaar said the officer's boyfriend had been arrested in connection with the murder.

Her service firearm has also been taken in for ballistics testing.

The boyfriend will be facing a charge of murder in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
