Johannesburg - A man's body was discovered at a farm in Richmond after a 55-year-old farmer and his wife were attacked by intruders, police said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Superintendent Henry Budhram said police were called by the farmer's neighbour on Wednesday and when they went to the house they discovered the body an unknown man in farmer David Warren's bedroom.
"The neighbour said Warren had telephoned him and reported that he was attacked by a group of men inside his bedroom," said Budhram.
He said the man called his neighbour on the way to the hospital.
Budhram said the body had several gunshot wounds, and the house was in disarray with blood stains on the walls and floor giving the indication that there was a struggle between the farmer and his attackers.
It was believed the attackers entered the house through a large glass window in the bedroom which had been smashed.
A knife was also found near the body.
Budhram said Warren sustained two stab wounds to his back and his wife sustained bruises to the body. He said both were admitted to hospital and were in a satisfactory condition.
