Johannesburg - A truck driver died and his passenger was injured when their vehicle overturned on the M1 north on Friday afternoon, said Johannesburg metro police.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the injured passenger was taken to hospital, but he did not know which one.

He said the truck overturned between the Oxford Road and Houghton off-ramps on the M1.

That section of the road was closed to traffic for four hours, re-opening at 18:00, he said.
