Pretoria - South Africa has offered assistance to Myanmar following the weekend's cyclone that killed thousands and left a million people homeless.
"South Africa stands ready to assist, within its limited resources, the people of Myanmar in mitigating the effects of that disaster," foreign affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said on Wednesday.
He said any assistance would be co-ordinated by the National Disaster Response Unit under the leadership of Provincial and Local Affairs Minister Sydney Mufamadi.
He also relayed the country's condolences to the people of Myanmar.
At least 22 000 people are dead and nearly twice as many missing after a cyclone hit the country over the weekend.
