  • Pietermaritzburg - A 36-year-old man who repeatedly raped his own daughter and niece, both aged 12, while forcing them to watch pornography was given two life sentences by Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday.

The man was convicted in the regional court and referred to the High Court for sentencing.

Judge Piet Koen said the man isolated the girls and repeatedly raped them, one by one.

The judge said the man had threatened to kill the girls if they told anyone about the rapes.

Koen said the man had lied to the court and showed no remorse for his actions.

State counsel Dorian Paver said the man took the girls to his house on the pretext that he wanted to keep an eye on their " immoral behaviour".

Paver said he suspected that the man gave the girls stimulants and turned up the television set's volume to drown the noises.

Paver said the man could not be rehabilitated.

The two girls are being cared for by relatives.
