Durban - A 23-year-old woman was raped at Durban's busy Blue Lagoon Beach, police said on Wednesday.

Captain Thembeka Luthuli said the incident took place late last week but was only reported to police on Tuesday.

"The woman alleges she was standing outside Ace Butchery when she was accosted by an unknown man with a knife," she said.

The man allegedly forced her to walk along the beachfront until they reached Blue Lagoon.

He then apparently pushed her into a bush and raped her.

Luthuli said no condom was used.

"Later when the woman told him she was hungry, the man tied her with her underwear and went to the shop. This is when the woman fled," said Luthuli.

Police said no arrests had yet been made.
